According to the proposed amendments, labor migrants will be required to:
- provide for themselves and their relatives living in Russia at a level corresponding to the requirements of a specific region, as well as make a fixed advance payment for each family member;
- in case of non-compliance with this condition, patents and work permits may be revoked or not issued, and the duration of stay in the country will be reduced;
- tax authorities and the Ministry of Internal Affairs will be granted powers to verify the income of foreign citizens;
- children of migrants who are in Russia for work will be required to leave the country within 30 days after turning 18;
- temporary residence permits or residence permits will not be issued to foreigners who have worked less than 10 months during the year;
- the amount of fixed monthly advance payments for certain categories of labor migrants will increase.
According to the head of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, “this will allow for more effective control over labor migrants, their incomes, and the legality of their stay in the country.”
