Turmush continues to introduce readers to Kyrgyzstani people who live and work abroad.

Umut Tabaldievna Mamytova, who has been working in Russia for many years, managed to open her own medical clinic thanks to her perseverance and hard work, making the journey from migrant to doctor.

Umut was born on April 12, 1989, in Osh. She is married and raises five sons. “My father Tabaldy worked as a teacher at Osh State University, but unfortunately, he passed away in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. My mother Öktöm, also a teacher, is now retired and takes care of household duties. I am the eldest of two children. My brother Joomat graduated from Osh State Institute last year and is now continuing his studies in residency. I am sure he will become a wonderful doctor,” Umut shared.

She talked about how she managed to combine her duties as a doctor and a taxi driver. “In 2015, I moved to St. Petersburg due to circumstances. Like many, I was an ordinary migrant. At first, I worked as a cashier in a café, then in stores, and even in a shawarma place. I submitted documents for diploma recognition and prepared for exams. While waiting for their approval, I took on side jobs, including cleaning. One day I thought: why not try my hand at taxi driving? I went to a taxi park, and they immediately gave me the keys to a car and connected me to the line.

Imagine – a huge and unfamiliar city. But on the same day, I took my first passenger and began my work with the help of a navigator. When my documents were ready and my diploma was recognized in Russia, I started sending out resumes. Soon I received a call inviting me for an interview, and I was hired. I worked from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, but thanks to my free time, I didn’t give up taxi driving. This way, I combined both activities for over two years. I am grateful to fate for everything. Now I have my own clinic where various patients come. It is especially hard to see young girls with cysts, fibroids, polycystic ovary syndrome, and infertility or those who come for an abortion. If someone cannot afford treatment, we help them for free,” she said.

Umut also noted that she actively participates in various events. “I have many plans for the future. I want to work in Kyrgyzstan, to be closer to my relatives, friends, and family. In my free time, I engage in music and love to sing. In 2015, I visited Turkey, but instead of resting, I brought back goods for sale. Now we are planning a trip to Thailand for the New Year,” Umut added.
