India will conduct research for the first time to document ancient manuscripts
The Ministry of Culture of India has announced the launch of a nationwide project to research manuscripts aimed at documenting the unique cultural heritage of the country. This was reported by News9 agency.

As part of this initiative, a digital repository and the mobile application Gyan Bharatam will be utilized. The project envisions the creation of a centralized database that will include geotags for millions of manuscripts, making them accessible for preservation and research. This will be the first step towards digitizing India's cultural treasures and will help combat intellectual piracy.

The research will begin at the district level and aims to identify all manuscripts across the country, creating a unified consolidated database. All collected information will be stored in the national digital archive on the central Gyan Bharatam portal.

Manuscripts located in both institutional archives and private collections will be meticulously documented. Officials also emphasized that each manuscript will be supplemented with geotags to simplify the process of their preservation, protection, and digitization.

According to estimates, India possesses the largest collection of manuscripts in the world.
