Active Multifaceted Monumentalist Dzhyldyz Moldakhmatov

Clarity of the creative task presentation.
As an active multifaceted monumental artist, Jyldyz Moldakhmatov asserts himself, having graduated in 1972 from the Moscow Higher Artistic and Industrial School (formerly Stroganov School). The mural he created in the interior of the Kyrgyz State Circus building (1978) speaks of a clear understanding of the creative task, emotionality, and the artist's coloristic gift, as well as an understanding of architectural genre and style. The mural, depicting circus life, is created in a conditional, vividly pictorial language, is compositionally structured, dynamic, and significantly complements the architectural image, the spectacular atmosphere of the circus space, and creates a major, festive mood.
A major independent work by Moldakhmatov is the mosaic (1985) on the end of a nine-story building on Soviet Street in Frunze. Complex, created in a vertical rhythm and divided into two parts using a proscenium technique, the composition of the mosaic combines representational elements with decorative conditions and possesses a resonant color expressiveness. Unfortunately, the impressive-sized mosaic lacks the integrity and significance of a monumental image. It features a whole range of themes, plastic motifs, plots, and decorative details that do not align into a unified structural subordination. There are no clear compositional dominants or a discernible scale of the image parts. However, there are beautifully executed color fragments. The upper part of the mosaic, more illuminated and compositionally organized in color, presents the image of a beautiful city, possibly a city of the future. Here, olive, gray, white, and blue colors resonate softly and harmoniously. Moldakhmatov has a good sense of the wall's plane, freely operates modern compositional techniques, and creates a rhythmic alternation of color masses, differentiating them by visual "weight." But overall, the mosaic suffers from a lack of thoughtfulness in the overall solution. It is important to emphasize that, as in several other cases, the location of the mosaic has not been well considered. It is placed very close to one of the city's central thoroughfares and does not work from a distance. Until it is supported by the architectural environment, this situation may change in the future as urban development continues.
