ARTICLE IN THE NEWSPAPER ABOUT THE OPENING OF THE HOUSE OF SANITARY ENLIGHTENMENT IN THE CITY OF FRUNZE
City of Frunze, May 26, 1931.
Today, the Republican House of Sanitary Enlightenment is being opened in the city of Frunze.
During the reconstruction of the national economy, every new educational institution is a new fortress of the cultural revolution.
In the field of public health, sanitary enlightenment is of exceptional importance, as, firstly, sanitary enlightenment is a fundamental part of Soviet prevention. Sanitary enlightenment is an entirely new branch of Soviet healthcare, which we place above sanitary legislation, especially in the conditions of a backward national republic.
The new house of sanitary enlightenment is being opened today, so to speak, still stitched with live thread, meaning it does not yet represent what it was intended to be by its organizers, but it already possesses all the essential components that should form the basis of a cultural institution, and we open it now because life does not wait, and further improvement of the House of Sanitary Enlightenment will take place throughout its operation.
Currently, the House of Sanitary Enlightenment includes an exhibition of sanitary-educational visual aids with departments on venereal diseases, tuberculosis, alcoholism, infectious diseases, school sanitation and hygiene, anatomy, first aid, maternal and infant care, labor hygiene, nutrition, and general hygiene.
The House of Sanitary Enlightenment has a film installation and a sufficient number of sanitary films, scientific and popular libraries, a doctor's room, which will serve as the base for the medical scientific association, a mobile fund of visual aids, and a stock of slides on sanitary enlightenment.
The task of the House of Sanitary Enlightenment is to serve, first and foremost, the masses of the proletariat and the indigenous population, especially collective farmers, and therefore it is the task of the Trade Union, the Collective Farm Center, the regional committee, and the women's sector to fully utilize the House of Sanitary Enlightenment for the purpose of introducing medical culture among the masses they serve and creating a sanitary enlightenment active around the House. The enormous tasks facing medical workers cannot be handled alone, as the protection of the health of workers is the responsibility of the workers themselves.
