Gabions on the Streets of Bishkek

“Stone” Turtles Appear in Bishkek
Employees of the municipal enterprise "Bishkekzelenhoz" have started installing small architectural forms (MAFs) designed to beautify and complement the overall landscape of the city streets.
The items are made in the shape of small turtles from gabions, with around 20 pieces planned. Later, bright floral compositions will be placed around the gabions. Not a single som from the capital's budget was spent on the production and installation of the turtles. The stones used for their construction are river stones that were specially collected by city service employees.
A gabion is a galvanized wire mesh filled with stones. The most common type is box-shaped, meaning that the mesh is formed into a box with rectangular walls. These structures are often used in landscape design and look very unusual and original.
