A new khan of the Kyrgyz has been elected in the Little Pamir
The new head of the Pamir Kyrgyz is 44 years old, named Azhybutu Abdylgani uulu.
In Afghanistan, the Kyrgyz have elected a new khan, reported Abdybait Zheenbek uulu, a Pamir Kyrgyz currently residing in Naryn.
The previous head of the Kyrgyz on the Pamir, Eraly khan, died on July 13 after a long illness. It was then reported that his son Zheenbay was planned to be elected as khan.
“The head should be a person who can meet official visitors coming here, capable of negotiating with them, hospitable, and able to care for the people. Currently, most support Azhybutu's candidacy,” said local resident Abdulvakhit Zheenbek uulu.
“On July 24, the akim of the Vakhon district held a meeting. Azhybutu was elected khan, and his assistant became Abdilkhak. Azhybutu is from the alapa tribe. Relatives from the Little Pamir told me about the election,” said Zheenbek uulu.
The new khan has 5 sons and one daughter, Zheenbek uulu added.
The head of the Kyrgyz on the Little Pamir, Eraly khan, had been ill for a long time and was treated in a Tajik hospital.

Khan Eraly ruled over about 400 families of Pamir Kyrgyz for more than 5 years. On July 15, it was reported that he passed away at the age of 68.
Earlier, journalist Zhanil Zhusupzhan wrote about the death of Eraly khan on social media, citing the Pamir Kyrgyz.
