With the G20 summit approaching, which will take place in South Africa from November 22, Oxfam has called on German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and other world leaders to create an international body to combat inequality and to raise taxes on the wealthiest.
“The growing inequality around the world is causing serious harm to humanity,” noted Tobias Hauschild, head of Oxfam's social justice department. “It drives millions of people into economic hardship while simultaneously contributing to political division and the decline of democratic institutions… It is absolutely unacceptable that the super-rich are still not taxed adequately, while many countries are cutting aid to developing nations,” he added.
