According to the press service of the Cabinet, in his speech, Baisalov emphasized that the updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) for Kyrgyzstan aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 18% by 2030, with the possibility of increasing this figure to 30% with the support of the international community, as well as achieving carbon neutrality by the middle of the 21st century.
He stated that for Kyrgyzstan, which is a low-emission and mountainous country, the main issue is not what needs to be done, but how to attract the necessary resources to achieve climate goals. Experts estimate that at least 6 billion US dollars will be required for minimally effective implementation of the set tasks.
Baisalov also called for the establishment of a separate global structure for climate financing of mountain ecosystems, which currently remain the least prioritized and do not receive sufficient funding under international climate initiatives.
Additionally, he announced the beginning of the development of a national carbon trading system that will comply with Articles 6.2 and 6.4 of the Paris Agreement, and presented a national initiative aimed at doubling the country's forest cover to 15% by planting 800 million trees. This initiative will allow Kyrgyzstan to sell carbon credits worth between 250 to 500 million dollars annually over the next 20-30 years.
During the summit, Edil Baisalov held several bilateral meetings and negotiations with representatives of governments and international organizations, during which issues of climate partnership and sustainable development were discussed.
