On March 7, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Jeenbek Kulubaev, participated in an informal meeting of the CSTO Foreign Ministers Council held in Istanbul. The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that during the event, the ministers discussed important regional and global issues.
Particular attention was paid to the ongoing tensions in various parts of the world, including the Middle East, as well as security issues at the international and regional levels.
Kulubaev expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict in the Middle East. He called for an immediate ceasefire, expecting restraint from the parties involved and the exclusive use of peaceful diplomatic methods to resolve conflicts in accordance with the UN Charter and principles of international law. The minister emphasized the importance of joint efforts by the international community to prevent further destabilization.
In his speech, he also addressed the situation in Afghanistan and along the border with Pakistan, reaffirming Kyrgyzstan's interest in ensuring peace, stability, and prosperity in Afghanistan as a necessary condition for regional security.
During the discussion on unilateral sanctions, it was noted that such measures negatively impact global trade and the sustainability of economic ties. Kulubaev emphasized that Kyrgyzstan advocates for adherence to international law and opposes unilateral actions outside the framework of the UN Security Council.
Additionally, the ministers discussed issues related to the institutionalization of the CSTO+ format and the possibilities for expanding partnerships with other external players.
As a result of the meeting, a joint statement was adopted concerning the situation in the Middle East.
