The beginning of 2026 for Hollywood was marked by the success of the film "Avatar: Flame and Ash," which has held the top spot at the box office for three consecutive weeks. During this period, the film has grossed $40 million in North American theaters, according to preliminary data from the studio released on Sunday.

Walt Disney Co. noted that this film has become "yet another significant achievement for James Cameron's innovative franchise."

The second highest-grossing film is "Zootopia 2," which has earned $1.59 billion, making it the second highest-grossing animated film in Disney history, surpassed only by the photorealistic "The Lion King" from 2019 ($1.66 billion).

Also during the Christmas holidays, the intricate thriller "The Maid," starring Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, enjoyed success and became a seasonal hit for Lionsgate.
