At the beginning of December, the UN announced a reduction in the budget of its humanitarian programs to the lowest level in the last ten years, which is related to a decrease in donor contributions, especially from the United States. Despite this, the United States remains the largest donor to the UN, although its share of total humanitarian aid has fallen to 15%, whereas it previously accounted for about one-third.
At the same time, the expected budget for UN humanitarian programs for 2026 is $23 billion, which is almost half of the organization's requested $47 billion for 2025.
