FIFA President Gianni Infantino shared his thoughts on the current situation in Mexico, where the 2026 World Cup will take place. Recently, the country has seen armed conflicts, raising concerns about the safety of the upcoming tournament.
According to Infantino, "the situation has stabilized, and everything is under control. We are confident that the championship will proceed without incidents," as reported by the Spanish publication AS.
The recent elimination of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as El Mencho, the leader of one of Mexico's most powerful drug cartels, has sparked widespread reactions both within the country and beyond. This event has led to a wave of violence between drug cartels and government forces. However, authorities have managed to control the main hotspots of tension, although increased patrolling remains in some regions.
The World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19 and will be held in three countries: the USA, Mexico, and Canada. In Mexico, matches will take place in cities such as Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara, with 13 scheduled games, including important matches at the legendary Azteca Stadium.
