The leader of the largest drug cartel 'Jalisco New Generation' killed by the Mexican army

According to information from the military department, the operation took place in Tapalpa, located in western Mexico. Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes died from injuries sustained during transport on an aircraft to a medical facility. Four of his accomplices also died during the operation, two were seriously injured, and among the military, there are three casualties.

The 'Jalisco New Generation' cartel was formed in 2010 in the state of Jalisco and subsequently significantly increased its influence throughout the country. El Mencho, who previously worked in the police, created a criminal organization that actively engaged in the smuggling of cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl into the United States. The United States offered a reward of $15 million for information about his whereabouts.

Additionally, the Mexican Ministry of Defense reported that the United States provided intelligence data that contributed to the successful preparation of the operation. As a result of the raid, not only armored vehicles were seized, but also firearms, including grenade launchers.

The death of El Mencho triggered a surge in violence: in eight states, cartel militants set vehicles on fire, blocked roads, and attacked law enforcement agencies.

The elimination of El Mencho is a significant success for Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum in the fight against drug cartels, as noted by BBC correspondent Will Grant. This success may also strengthen relations with U.S. President Donald Trump, who insists on the need for more active actions by Mexico against drug syndicates.

However, the celebration of this victory may be overshadowed if authorities cannot quickly address the rising levels of violence.

The 'Jalisco New Generation' cartel is notorious for its incredible brutality: its militants have attacked army helicopters with grenade launchers, killed dozens of officials, and displayed the bodies of their victims on bridges to intimidate opponents.
