The storm, affecting southern, midwestern, and northeastern states, is accompanied by intense snowfall and freezing rain, which has already negatively impacted the transportation system and infrastructure of the country.
According to media reports, a state of emergency has been declared in at least 16–18 states. The most affected regions include Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, and northeastern states such as New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. Meteorologists predict that some areas may receive up to 60–75 centimeters of snow, as well as dangerous ice accumulation.
The transportation system of the country is facing the greatest difficulties. In recent days, tens of thousands of flights have been canceled or delayed in the USA, especially in major cities like New York, Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, and Dallas.
Additionally, some railway companies have temporarily suspended or reduced train services on several routes. Authorities strongly recommend that citizens avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
Negative weather conditions have also caused power outages, leaving thousands of homes without electricity. Schools, government institutions, and public spaces in some cities are closed. Municipal services are operating in enhanced mode, clearing roads and creating warming centers for the most vulnerable populations.
Experts emphasize that this storm represents a rare combination of arctic cold, significant precipitation, and sharp temperature fluctuations, increasing the risk of traffic accidents, frostbite, and failures in utility networks.
Forecasters warn that nighttime temperatures in certain regions may drop significantly below zero.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm's impact is expected to weaken in the coming days; however, in the northeastern states, adverse weather conditions may persist longer than usual. Authorities continue to urge residents to monitor official warnings and adhere to safety measures in preparation for possible additional disruptions in transportation and utility services.
