As a result of heavy snowfall and ice storms, life in the Midwestern states and parts of the Atlantic coast of the United States is under threat, according to the national weather bureau. According to NBC, the severe weather has affected 72 million residents, which accounts for nearly 25% of the total American population. Due to the expected heavy snowfall, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency. A storm warning has been issued for states such as Vermont, Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire due to an active snow cyclone. Additionally, schools in Missouri have been closed due to adverse weather conditions. In Kansas and Missouri, multiple traffic accidents have been reported as a result of the onset of precipitation.
Forecasts for the next two days predict an intensification of snowfall, which may further complicate the situation for airlines. The first significant precipitation occurred last weekend, leading to the cancellation of about 3,000 flights and delays for more than 21,000. Boston (Massachusetts), Detroit (Michigan), Minneapolis (Minnesota), New York, and Chicago (Illinois) have become centers for the highest number of cancellations and delays.
As of early Tuesday, according to FlightAware, over 500 flights in this part of the country have already been canceled or delayed.
