
Temporary shelters for people without permanent housing have started operating in Bishkek for the autumn-winter period, as reported by the city administration.
In the Oktobrskiy district, at 1a A. Tokombaev Street (microdistrict 12), a shelter accommodating up to 80 people has been opened. This facility has undergone repairs, and medications and bedding have been purchased. Additionally, arrangements have been made for the procurement of single hot meals, and 10 tons of coal have been purchased for the heating season using local budget funds.
Furthermore, in the Pervomayskiy district, the municipal institution "Kolomto" (413 Jibek-Jolu Avenue) operates with a capacity of 70 places. This institution provides overnight accommodation and single meals daily to between 70 and 100 people without a fixed place of residence. The funding for "Kolomto" is also provided by the local budget.
The key functions of "Kolomto" include:
- temporary overnight accommodation;
- free single meals;
- medical examination, including fluorography and tests for HIV and hepatitis;
- primary sanitary processing: washing, wound treatment, and clothing changes.
Every year, this institution serves about 2000 people in need of support.
In the Leninskiy district, under the NGO "Center of Mercy," there is a shelter for women with children who find themselves in difficult life situations, accommodating 45 people. Here, overnight accommodation, single hot meals, as well as medical and social-legal assistance are provided. Currently, there are 10 women and 12 children in the Center.
