The increase in domestic production of vegetable oil in Kyrgyzstan allows for a significant reduction in import supplies and improves market stability, reported the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, by the end of 2024, the level of self-sufficiency in vegetable oil from local production increased from 20.2% in 2022 to 50%. In the first 11 months of 2025, this figure reached 56.5%, with production volume reaching approximately 18,500 tons.

This growth was made possible by the expansion of processing capacities. In 2026, five new oilseed processing plants were launched in the country: one in the Issyk-Kul region, two in the Naryn region, and one each in the Talas and Chui regions. According to the National Statistical Committee, there are 9 large and 136 small enterprises operating in this sector in the republic.

In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture is actively working on the introduction of high-yielding varieties of oilseeds. Currently, trials of new varieties brought from the USA, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Turkey are being conducted. A new promising safflower variety "Petrovich" has appeared in the State Register of Varieties, which has demonstrated high and stable production results.
