In Kyrgyzstan, measures for the import substitution of vegetable oil are being actively implemented, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry.

According to their information, this year five new oilseed processing plants have opened in the country: one in the Issyk-Kul region, two in Naryn, and one each in Talas and Chui regions.

The National Statistical Committee provides data indicating that there are 9 large and 136 small enterprises operating in the republic that are engaged in oilseed processing.

Over a period of 11 months, approximately 18,500 tons of vegetable oil were produced. The level of self-sufficiency due to domestic production reached 56.5 percent, which is significantly higher compared to 20.2 percent in 2022.

In addition, the ministry is actively working on the dissemination of high-yielding varieties of oilseeds. Currently, tests are being conducted on new varieties brought from the USA, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Turkey.
