The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic has announced its intention to introduce temporary restrictions on the import of certain fruit and berry seedling varieties.

As explained by the ministry, the need for this measure is due to the increase in the variety of fruit and berry crops in the country. This creates conditions for the development of modern, high-quality varieties that meet the requirements of the export market.

In this regard, a ban will be imposed on the import of low-quality seedlings that do not meet established standards.

According to the new rules, starting from January 1, 2026, it is planned to temporarily suspend the import of certain seedling varieties for a period of six months. This restriction will not apply to re-export, transit, and domestic trade within the EAEU.

“This initiative is aimed at ensuring food security, improving the efficiency of agricultural production, and controlling the quality of imported seedlings,” the ministry's statement notes.

Furthermore, the introduced restrictions will help reduce dependence on imports, encouraging local nurseries to produce certified seedlings and providing farmers with quality materials.
