The remaining three types of products are partially supplied through imports
According to the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, in the first nine months, Kyrgyzstan was able to provide itself with six out of nine critically important food items.
These include: potatoes, milk, meat, vegetables, eggs, and sugar.
The other three types of products, such as baked goods (made from grains), vegetable oil, fruits, and berries, are partially imported from abroad.
Starting in 2024, Kyrgyzstan will fully manage sugar production, which was previously imported.
“As for meat, the country fully provides itself with beef and lamb. Currently, efforts are ongoing to achieve complete self-sufficiency in poultry meat. It should be noted that meat prices in neighboring countries, such as Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, are significantly higher. This has prompted farmers and livestock breeders to export their products for greater profit. To stabilize meat prices, the government has taken measures: an export ban has been introduced and state control has been established,” commented the Ministry of Agriculture.
Additionally, due to the increase in domestic production of chicken eggs, an import ban has been imposed. To date, Kyrgyzstan not only fully meets its own needs for chicken eggs but also exports them. For example, from August to January 2025, 3 million 300 thousand eggs were exported.
