The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan has presented a draft resolution concerning the introduction of a temporary ban on the import of seedlings of certain fruit and berry crops. This document is available for public discussion and suggestions.

According to this draft, starting from January 1, 2026, it is planned to restrict the import of certain varieties of seedlings for a period of six months. At the same time, re-export, transit, and movement of goods within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) will not be subject to this ban.

The explanation to the draft states that this measure is aimed at enhancing the food security of the country, improving the efficiency of agricultural production, and controlling the quality of imported seedlings.

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has been tasked with notifying the Committee on Safeguard Measures of the World Trade Organization, as well as the Eurasian Economic Commission, about the introduction of temporary restrictions. In turn, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must inform the Executive Committee of the CIS.

The customs service and the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry have also been proposed to take measures to prevent the illegal import of prohibited categories of seedlings.
