According to information provided by the Water Resources Service of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the KR, in 2024, the consumption from natural sources, including underground fresh waters, was recorded at 9.3 billion cubic meters, which is 16.3% higher than the figures for 2020.
Water consumption in 2024 amounted to 6.6 billion cubic meters, an increase of 25.4% compared to 2020. The main share of consumption, namely 94.3%, was attributed to irrigation and water supply for agriculture. Water use for domestic and drinking purposes accounted for 3.4%, while for industrial needs it was 1.1%.
However, as noted by the specialists of the department, about 26% of the water withdrawn is lost during transportation due to the unsatisfactory condition of irrigation systems.
