The Botanical Garden, one of the largest green areas in the capital and an important historical and scientific site, has become the subject of intense discussions. In 2025, a similar video appeared, where users showcased the changes that occurred over the year, which also sparked active discussions in society.
At that time, the city hall explained that the garden is not under their jurisdiction and belongs to the National Academy of Sciences. They also confirmed that the Botanical Garden has the status of a specially protected natural area under current legislation.
Previously, the administration of the Botanical Garden explained the changes in the area by stating that work is being done on the major repair of the irrigation system and preparations for the upcoming reconstruction. The garden management noted that some areas had been overtaken by aggressive plants, which are planned to be replaced with decorative species.
This week, it was also announced that construction of football fields and other infrastructure facilities on the garden's territory has begun, including recreational areas, running and cycling paths, as well as playgrounds. The administration emphasizes that the choice of construction sites is due to the fact that they were previously not landscaped and did not promote tree growth. Revenues from the sports facilities are planned to be directed towards the maintenance of the Botanical Garden.
Some members of parliament expressed their concern regarding the fate of the garden, insisting on the necessity of preserving its green zone and preventing its use for sports or commercial facilities, highlighting its significance as the "lungs" of Bishkek.
This situation continues to be one of the most discussed environmental topics in the capital among both residents and public activists.
