On September 25, the International Symposium "History of the Botanical Garden named after E.Z. Gareev of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic" took place at the Botanical Garden named after E.Z. Gareev of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic (BS NAS KR). Scientists from the Main Botanical Garden named after N.V. Tsitsin of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Doctor of Biological Sciences, Corresponding Member of NAS KR, Senior Researcher Vitaly Krivoruchko, Candidate of Biological Sciences Alexander Kabanov, Junior Researcher Irina Pavlova), Vice-President of NAS KR, Academician Almaz Aldashev, and directors of the institutes of OHTMBiS of NAS KR participated in the event. The International Symposium was dedicated to the memory of the scientific research and organizational activities of the leaders of BS NAS KR and prominent scientists who made significant contributions to the establishment and development of the Botanical Garden.
In his speech, Vice-President of NAS KR, Academician Almaz Aldashev emphasized the importance of the International Symposium dedicated to the history of the Botanical Garden named after E.Z. Gareev, one of the largest in Central Asia, which has a diverse plant flora. The Director of the Botanical Garden named after E.Z. Gareev of NAS KR, Candidate of Biological Sciences Turatbek Musuraliev, highlighted, "Currently, the living collections of the garden comprise about 5,500 taxa. The Botanical Garden serves as the main base for scientific research in the field of plant introduction, a unique collection of the gene pool of the plant world, and plays an important role in environmental protection and the sustainable use of components of global biological diversity."
In turn, the guest from the Russian Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member of NAS KR Vitaly Krivoruchko expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from his colleagues and stated that he intends to visit the Batken region for expeditionary work in 2015. "I am very glad to be among you in the native Botanical Garden named after E.Z. Gareev, which was named after my initiative by the decision of the Academic Council. It is very good that the tradition of honoring scientists who have worked in the Botanical Garden for a long time and made significant contributions to the greening of the garden continues," added Vitaly Krivoruchko.
