Recently, a ceremonial opening of the Chinese Corner took place at the Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, supported by CEPIEC (China Educational Publications Import and Export Corporation). The event was attended by the President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, Abdygani Erkebayev, Vice Presidents of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, Almaz Aldashev and Biymyrza Toktoraliev, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, Zheng Shi, the Vice President of the Chinese Consulate in Bishkek, Wu Bo, the Director of the Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, Shirin Ibraimova, and others.
The establishment of the Chinese Corner was made possible through a joint project between the Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic and CEPIEC, under which the Chinese side provided over 300 books for studying the Chinese language, as well as other scientific publications on history, geography, art, culture, tourism, economics, and social development in Chinese and Russian. For its part, the Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic created the Chinese Corner, cataloged the received books, and prepared informational materials to promote the Chinese Corner. This project will develop over three years, with 150 titles of books provided each year for the next two years.
In his speech, President Abdygani Erkebayev emphasized the importance of Kyrgyz-Chinese relations: “I am very glad that the Chinese Embassy pays such attention to science; this is very timely, as our library needs to be replenished with various books, journals, and publications,” added Abdygani Erkebayev.
For his part, Chargé d'Affaires Zheng Shi expressed his intention to continue assisting the Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic with literature about China: “On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the People's Republic of China and the 60th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, I will be happy to help the library and will arrange for the provision of another batch of books to the Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic on a gratuitous basis,” stated Zheng Shi.
The Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic hopes that the scientific community will show interest in Chinese publications, and that students, young scholars, and specialists will broaden their horizons in understanding Chinese culture.
