Mirkhond (died in 1498) belonged to the school of courtly Timurid historiography in Herat. He came from a family of Bukhara sayyids and spent most of his life in Herat. The "Geographical Appendix" to "Rawzat" ... was fully included in "Bada'i at-Tawarikh" — a collection of excerpts from various works compiled in the mid-16th century.

Translation from Persian by O. F. Akimushkin

Text: (This is) a fortress that is extremely impregnable on a broad mountain. And the expanse of that mountain is such that it accommodates the population of those districts. And there are many people in those districts. However, the Kyrgyz are called as (ami). And nearby that fortress, there is a mountain that has raised its peak to the heavens — the ascent to the top of that mountain presents difficulties. And the explanation (of the word) "kyrgyz" is known. "Kyrgyz" in the language of the Mongols means "forty men".

Reading from "Bada'i at-Tawarikh":
1 "in those surroundings".
2 "Kyrgyz population".
3 "and Kyrgyz clothing belongs to the famous garments".
4 "forty maidens".
