Starting from February 1, Kyrgyzstan will implement a licensing requirement for taxis, which, according to Deputy Dastan Bekeshev, will lead to significant changes in the taxi service sector.

Bekeshev expressed concern that the new working conditions could leave a considerable number of drivers without income, thereby reducing the overall number of taxis on the roads.

He noted: "The cost of rides may rise to 700-800 soms, as the number of available taxis will be limited, while demand will increase."

In the deputy's opinion, this could cause dissatisfaction among workers in the taxi sector.

Bekeshev added that many of these drivers, including migrants who have returned from Russia and other countries, may find themselves in a difficult situation, as working in taxis is one of the few ways for them to earn a living.

As of today, only about 7,000 drivers have obtained licenses, while the total number of those working in this sector is at least 70,000. The deputy believes that the government should consider extending the deadlines for licensing to help drivers meet the new requirements in time.
