At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Foreign Minister Almaz Imangaziev reported that the ministry has been in dialogue with Kazakhstan for two years with the aim of abolishing the "90/180" stay regime between the two countries.

Deputy Dastan Bekeshev pointed out that some citizens of Kazakhstan are facing difficulties when entering Kyrgyzstan due to new laws.

He noted: “People come to me with various situations, for example, if a man is Kyrgyz and his wife is a citizen of Kazakhstan, she cannot come to Kyrgyzstan, nor can their children. Our citizens complain that their relatives are left in Kazakhstan. Shouldn't we discuss the possibility of creating exceptions for close relatives or implementing family visas?”

The Deputy Minister responded that in 2023, Kazakhstan changed its internal migration rules and introduced the 90/180 regime.

“From 2023 until December 2025, Kyrgyzstan managed to avoid the application of this regime; however, in December of last year, the republic was forced to agree to a parity approach. We continue negotiations with Kazakhstan to maintain freedom of movement between our peoples,” he added.

Additionally, Almaz Imangaziev reported that the situation at the border is constantly monitored, and during the first half of 2026, government agencies intend to take measures to address the issues of citizens who were unable to return to Kyrgyzstan due to changes in legislation.

He emphasized that citizens of Kazakhstan only need to register their place of residence in Kyrgyzstan to stay in the country for a year.
