The recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Agrarian Policy, Water Resources, Ecology, and Environmental Protection once again raised the issue of smog in Kyrgyzstan. The Director of the National Institute of Public Health, Jarkynbek Kasymbekov, reported that the incidence of allergic rhinitis has increased by 2.5 times.

According to him, there are currently no specific studies confirming the impact of smog on public health, which complicates accurate assessments.

“It is important to note that we are observing an increase in respiratory diseases. In particular, allergic rhinitis has become more common among young people, which is apparently related to the deterioration of air quality,” Kasymbekov added.

Deputy Nilufar Alimjanova emphasized the need for a more thorough analysis of the impact of smog and air pollution on citizens' health. She pointed out the lack of information in reports regarding the effects of smog on public health, noting the rise in cases of asthma and allergic reactions, especially among children and the elderly.

Alimjanova also highlighted that discussions often focus on Bishkek and Osh, while the situation in the regions requires no less attention, where coal remains the primary source of energy and gasification is virtually absent.
