At the Global Summit on Sustainable Development, Torobaev spoke
At the recent Global Summit, Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Torobaev emphasized that mountain ecosystems are among the most vulnerable to climate change. This information was announced by the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers.
According to him, "the melting of glaciers, changes in precipitation patterns, and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events pose serious long-term threats to water resources, energy, and agriculture both in Central Asia and beyond."
Torobaev called for mountain countries and regions to be recognized as special zones for sustainable development, with priority access to funding to combat climate change, adaptation technologies, and monitoring systems.
In Bakyt Torobaev's opinion, the resilience of mountain areas directly affects the water and food security of millions of people, which requires comprehensive and coordinated international initiatives.
