The U.S. will allocate nearly $6 billion for the global fight against HIV

A new financial package to combat HIV/AIDS has been approved in the United States, amounting to $5.88 billion. This is reported by the UN News Service.

According to the provided information, the document allocates $4.6 billion to support HIV-related programs under the America First Global Health strategy. Additionally, $1.25 billion will be directed to the Global Fund, which focuses on combating AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, and $45 million will be allocated to support the work of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).

These American investments will help millions of people around the world and will contribute to maintaining the effectiveness of the global response to HIV.

“UNAIDS aims to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. For more than twenty years, U.S. funding has been a key factor in global progress, saving millions of lives and supporting countries in their fight against the epidemic,” the statement notes.

UNAIDS has confirmed its readiness to effectively utilize the allocated funds by providing countries and communities with technical support, data, and strategic recommendations, as well as actively collaborating with the U.S. government, the Global Fund, and national partners.

It is also worth noting that Kyrgyzstan and the Global Fund have signed a contract for a grant of over $27 million for the years 2024-2026.
