“Their children are already on the new plots”
In Kyrgyzstan, about 2,500 families received land plots, but did not relocate from high-risk zones. This was reported at a recent briefing by Azamat Mambetov, the First Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations.
Mambetov noted that strong melting of snow and glaciers can lead to dangerous phenomena such as landslides and mudflows. Approximately 11,000 plots have been identified in the country that pose a potential threat, of which about 4,000 are landslide-prone areas where around 4,000 families reside.
Thus, despite the fact that 2,500 families received land for relocation from threatening areas, they did not do so.
“Their children live on the new plots, while the parents remain in risk zones. They even sign a receipt for our employees, confirming that they are ready to face the consequences if a landslide occurs. The Ministry of Emergency Situations does not have the authority for forced relocation. We have contacted law enforcement agencies, and work will be conducted with such families,” added the representative of the rescue services.
