The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan has proposed a bill that requires citizens with foreign driver's licenses to register their documents in the country. Discussions on amendments to legislation concerning road safety have already begun.

The initiators of the changes emphasize that the current legislation does not provide a specific mechanism for the registration of foreign licenses for citizens permanently residing in Kyrgyzstan. This creates difficulties in accounting for drivers and complicates the enforcement of traffic rules, which may hinder holding them accountable for violations.

In this regard, the Ministry of Internal Affairs plans to introduce mandatory registration of all foreign driver's licenses at the State Center for Vehicle Registration for citizens of Kyrgyzstan.

Additionally, the Code of Offenses proposes to establish fines for late registration of foreign licenses: for individuals - 30 calculation indicators (3,000 soms), and for legal entities - 130 calculation indicators (13,000 soms).

After the bill is adopted, the procedure and deadlines for registration at "Unaa" will be determined by the Cabinet of Ministers.
