How many ethnic Kyrgyz live in Tajikistan? The ambassador's response

According to information presented at a meeting of the International Affairs Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan, Erlan Abdildaev, reported that approximately 35,000 ethnic Kyrgyz live in the country.

The diplomat delivered a report in which he discussed the activities of his embassy, as well as measures to define the state border and strengthen bilateral relations between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

He also noted that close ties are maintained with ethnic Kyrgyz. In light of the events of 2021–2022, the Kyrgyz community in Dushanbe was closed, but there are plans for its re-registration now. This issue was discussed during the visit of the Prime Minister of Tajikistan to Bishkek on February 13, where the Tajik side confirmed that the problem would be resolved.

In addition, the ambassador reported on plans to build two Kyrgyz schools in Murghab and the Jergital district, as well as the intention to increase the number of students from among ethnic Kyrgyz studying at universities in Kyrgyzstan.
