This information was announced by the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh.
According to Erlan Abdyldaev, the largest number of ethnic Kyrgyz live in the Jergital district — about 20,000 people. In Murghab, their number is approximately 11,000, in the Sughd region — about 3,000, in Dushanbe — 500, and another 500 in Khaton.
Abdyldaev also reported that in 2022, the organization "Kyrgyz koomu" was dissolved in Tajikistan, and steps are currently being taken to restore it. "When the Prime Minister of Tajikistan visited Kyrgyzstan, we raised this issue. He promised that the problem would be resolved," the ambassador added.
Furthermore, he noted that during Sadyr Japarov's visit to Tajikistan, it was proposed to build two schools for ethnic Kyrgyz, as they are in urgent need of educational institutions.
Work is also underway between the ministries of education of the two countries to transfer educational materials in the Kyrgyz language for ethnic Kyrgyz.
