Citizens are advised to remain vigilant, as radical groups are targeting youth through the internet.
In Kyrgyzstan, law enforcement agencies are urging parents to pay attention to their children. In the past six months, the State National Security Committee (GKNB) has recorded instances where minors were preparing terrorist acts using the internet for recruitment. This was reported by the committee's press service.
Committee representatives noted that the internet has become an integral part of teenagers' lives, providing them with opportunities for communication and learning. However, alongside this, there are groups using the network to propagate radical ideas, including terrorist and extremist ones.
The process of remote radicalization involves gradually persuading teenagers through social networks and messengers to adopt dangerous views that justify violence and offenses, which can alter their worldview.
GKNB also reported that in some cases, teenagers are learning online how to make homemade explosive devices and may be involved in attacks on law enforcement officers. These actions, including their preparation, are serious crimes in the Kyrgyz Republic and are subject to criminal liability.
In the past six months, GKNB has registered several cases of youth radicalization through the internet. Some of those detained were caught at the stage of preparing terrorist acts, studying instructions on how to create explosive devices, while others were arrested already at the stage of their production. These situations pose a serious threat to the stability of the state and national security.
"Often, such processes occur unnoticed, through friendly communication, manipulation, and false promises. This negatively affects the teenager, who may lose touch with reality and become part of criminal groups, jeopardizing their future," GKNB added.
It is important for parents to pay attention to changes in their children's behavior, maintain open dialogue with them, and monitor their online activity. Warning signs include:
- fascination with computer games;
- sharp changes in behavior and withdrawal;
- alienation from family and friends;
- manifestation of aggressive or radical religious views;
- hidden contacts with unfamiliar people online;
- interest in dubious websites and closed groups;
- aggression towards relatives;
- justification of violence or offenses.
Upon noticing such changes, it is important not to remain indifferent. Threats can affect anyone, and every parent should be attentive to their children's online activity. Open dialogue and reasonable control are crucial aspects of ensuring safety.
"A safe internet is everyone's responsibility. Support from family, educational institutions, and society is necessary to protect children from negative influences and preserve their future. Ensuring the safety of youth is a common task, and only through joint efforts can we confront these threats," emphasized GKNB.
