In the "Our People Abroad" section, we present the story of Aydai Tashtankulova, who, along with her family, settled in the city of Mirny, located in Yakutia.

Aydai was born in 1998 in the village of Chon-Örüktü, which is in the Issyk-Kul region.

“I currently work in a kindergarten. I studied at Bishkek Humanities University; my profession is a teacher,” she shares.

After getting married, the couple decided to go abroad for work to build their own house. Relatives living in Mirny helped them move to Yakutia, Aydai said.

According to her, Mirny is a small town, and in the summer, you can walk to any corner. In winter, however, the temperature drops to -40, and sometimes even to -50 degrees.

“Compared to large Russian cities, it’s quite quiet here, and there are many people of different nationalities, including Kyrgyz. Unlike Kyrgyzstan, fresh products are almost nonexistent; most of them are stored in warehouses for a long time. The climate is different: the seasons change very quickly here — winter can turn into summer in just a few weeks,” she added.

Aydai noted that with official employment, one can receive free medical assistance. When their daughter was born, they were able to receive maternity benefits and allowances up to 1.5 years, which pleasantly surprised them, considering they are citizens of Kyrgyzstan.

“We send most of our income back home, where our house is being built. We eagerly await the completion of construction so we can return,” she shared.

At first, it was not easy for them as they missed their homeland, but over time they got used to their new life.

The city has many Kyrgyz, and it’s common to meet acquaintances in the shops. Kyrgyz specialists work in hospitals, schools, and universities, and among them are successful businessmen.

On weekends, they take their children to clubs, visit relatives, and stroll around the city.

“In the future, we plan to return to our homeland and continue working in our profession,” Tashtankulova concluded.

Aydai and her husband are raising a son and a daughter.
