In our section "Our People Abroad," we present the story of 26-year-old Kyrgyzstani Malvina Medetova (Metin), who has settled in the Turkish city of Antalya with her family.

Her roots trace back to the village of Temir, located in the Issyk-Kul region.

“I was also born and raised in this village. In our family, there are four children: three sisters and a brother, and I am the youngest. I studied at the E. Kerimgaziev School, and then I enrolled in the International University of Kyrgyzstan in Bishkek in the Faculty of Linguistics (English and Turkish languages). After two years of study, in May 2017, I came to Antalya for an internship and stayed here. I had never traveled to other countries before. Currently, I work as a pharmacist in a pharmacy and run a blog about life in Turkey and pharmaceutical products,” Malvina shared her impressions.

Eight years ago, she married a young man of Turkish nationality, and now they have a daughter.

“When I first arrived in Turkey, I got a job in a souvenir shop, and my future husband worked in a nearby pharmacy. That’s how we met. For a year, we communicated as a couple, and then we got married. At first, I was jokingly assigned to cut meat, saying it was a tradition. Later, my sister-in-law explained that it was just a joke. We laughed for a long time. When my husband and I traveled to Kyrgyzstan, I also teased him, claiming that we have a tradition where he must walk around the house three times and bow,” she recounts.

Malvina also shared her impressions of life in Turkey and her plans for the future:

“Turkey is a modern country with highly developed systems of medicine and education, where the conditions for women and children are very comfortable. The political system is also quite stable, although opinions on this matter may vary.

However, I don’t really like that it gets too hot and humid in Antalya during the summer—I still can’t get used to it.

Nevertheless, I not only live and work here, but I have also been able to obtain an education, a profession, and a driver’s license. In addition, I am studying German and continuing to deepen my knowledge of Turkish. In the future, I plan to open my own pharmacy in Turkey.”
