Askarbay Kushtarbek uulu, originally from the Kara-Kulja district of the Osh region, has become the new hero of the "Our People Abroad" column. He is currently settled in Los Angeles, USA.

In 2023, he managed to win a green card, and in 2024, he moved to America with his family.

“I am 30 years old. I study at the Bubusara Beishenaliev Culture and Arts University, majoring in 'socio-cultural activities,' and this year I plan to complete my studies by taking the winter and summer sessions. Previously, I worked as a toastmaster, singer, and event host. I have a wife, a son, and two daughters. In Los Angeles, I work in food delivery through two popular platforms. The flexible schedule allows me to plan my time independently. If you work hard, your income will reflect that. My wife is also engaged in online education,” Askarbay shared.

He shared his impressions of life in America, the differences and similarities with his native Kyrgyzstan:

“Los Angeles enjoys warm weather almost all year round—there is no winter here. The pace of life in the USA is very dynamic, and everyone values their time. The principle here is simple: those who work hard live well. Unlike Kyrgyzstan, there are not as many weddings and feasts here, but family values, kindness, and humanity are present as well. I am sure these qualities are common to all countries,” noted Kushtarbek uulu.

At the beginning of his stay in the USA, he faced difficulties due to a lack of knowledge of the English language. However, by gradually communicating and listening to English speech, he managed to master the language at a conversational level within a year.

“The most challenging part for me at first was the language and adapting to the new environment. Sometimes I felt lonely and missed my family. But at the same time, I gained many joyful moments: new acquaintances, interesting people, and trips to the ocean with my children. When I lack words, I sometimes speak in Kyrgyz, but mostly I understand and can maintain a conversation in English. My language level now allows me to communicate on everyday topics,” Askarbay added.

He also emphasized that he was struck by the respectful attitude towards labor and the strict adherence to laws in the USA.

“Everything is organized and systematized. Here, work does not go to waste. The safe and wide roads, as well as the beautiful nature, catch the eye. In the future, I plan to raise my children to be decent people, develop in my profession, and promote Kyrgyz culture abroad. Ultimately, I want to return to Kyrgyzstan and work with the youth, sharing my experience,” concluded Askarbay Kushtarbek uulu.
