In Kyrgyzstan, there are 21 theaters, 68 museums, and more than 700 cultural institutions.

Since 1995, Kyrgyzstan has celebrated Culture Workers' Day, which was established by a government decree to support the arts and preserve the cultural heritage of the Kyrgyz people.

TheatersThe theatrical art in Kyrgyzstan dates back to the 1920s. The first people's theater was founded in 1918 in Karakol by local teachers. By 1920, amateur theaters were already operating in the Pishpek and Naryn regions, and in 1926, the first professional theater opened its doors.

According to the National Statistics Committee report, as of 2024, there are 21 professional theaters in the country, ten of which are located in Bishkek, three in Osh, two in the Jalal-Abad region, and one theater each in the Batken, Issyk-Kul, Osh, and Talas regions.

In 2024, theaters presented 1,973 performances to audiences. Among the most popular theaters are the Chingiz Aitmatov State Academic Russian Drama Theater, the puppet theaters of Bishkek and Osh, as well as the Toktogul Satylganov Kyrgyz National Drama Theater.

CinemasThe history of cinema in Kyrgyzstan began even before the revolution with a single cinema installation in Pishpek, located in Dubovy Park. Currently, there are 42 cinemas operating in the republic, which conducted over 232,000 screenings in 2024, attracting more than 3 million viewers.

The largest number of cinemas is located in Bishkek (11) and the Chui region (7). Modern cinema halls are equipped with digital technologies and meet international standards.

Club Institutions and Concert OrganizationsIn 2024, there were 720 cultural institutions of the club type operating in Kyrgyzstan, over 90% of which are located in rural areas.

Additionally, there were six concert organizations, including three philharmonics. Last year, concert groups and performers organized 218 concerts, with the events of the Toktogul Satylganov Kyrgyz State National Philharmonic becoming the most attended.

Museums and ParksAs of the end of 2024, there were 68 museums operating in Kyrgyzstan, including historical, ethnographic, artistic, and literary museums. Approximately 238,000 exhibition items are available for visitors.

Cultural leisure for citizens and guests of the country is provided by 49 parks of culture and recreation, with 16 located in Bishkek and the Jalal-Abad region.
