Ruslan Perezhiga, who lives in the village of Tyup in the Issyk-Kul region, speaks Kyrgyz fluently and actively participates in Kyrgyz equestrian sports.

He is currently in the 4th grade at Kaykin School.

“I try to study excellently. Mathematics is my favorite subject. I study in a class where lessons are conducted in Russian, but I always get 'fives' in Kyrgyz language classes,” Ruslan shares.

The boy was born in 2011 and has a younger brother.

“I can’t say exactly when I learned Kyrgyz. I communicated with friends and neighbors, and gradually mastered the language. Since childhood, I enjoyed riding donkeys; we organized races on them, just like on horses. One day, the local trainer and horseman Kanat asked me if I liked horses. That’s how I first got on a racehorse. He noticed that I had a talent for riding and offered to train me. Now I’m learning how to train horses and ride them,” he said.

Ruslan started riding at the age of 5. At 8 years old, he took second place in the district akim’s cup and has since regularly won prizes in races in the region and district.

“Thanks to my passion, I travel to various regions of Kyrgyzstan. At the alaman jarysh in the Talas region, I competed on a racehorse named ‘Aelita.’ I also remember the at chabysh in Naryn, where two of our horses participated. One of them, ‘Karkyra,’ won 65,000 soms in the alaman jarysh,” Ruslan added.

Recently, in anticipation of the start of the racing season in Karakol, his horses ‘Kyz Burak’ and ‘Kara,’ which he trains, finished first in the kunan chabysh and alaman, attracting the attention of spectators.

“I love playing chükö (alchik) with the guys from the village. I have a favorite alchik that brings me good luck. We also have Kubat Ata in our village, who teaches archery (jaa atu). He says that in this sport, the body should be tense like a string, so we train constantly. I also have my own horse, which my father bought, and we take care of it together,” he shared.

Ruslan dreams of becoming a veterinarian in the future.
