Our People Abroad: Aliya Sharsheeva from Karakol, working for one of the world's major airlines, shared a shocking incident that occurred on board a plane.
Aliya is 22 years old and hails from Karakol, located in the Issyk-Kul region. She currently lives in Dubai and works for Emirates. The competition for vacant positions here is very tough: only 5% of candidates from the total number successfully pass the interview.
For Aliya, aviation has always been something special, symbolizing freedom and new horizons. She graduated from the Kyrgyz Economic University named after Musa Ryskulbekov, studying business management, and underwent training at KIMEP in Almaty through an academic mobility program. “I have always sought change and new discoveries, so working in the sky became a natural choice for me,” she shares.
Aliya interviewed in Astana, which lasted an entire day—from eight in the morning until six in the evening. Three days later, she received the coveted “golden call”—an invitation for training in Dubai. “Training at Emirates Aviation College lasted two months and was very intensive: classes every day, tests, and practical training. When I started flying, the first month went by in a blur,” recalls Aliya.
The first weeks of work were challenging for her: a new environment, rules, and pace of life. “However, over time everything became familiar. The main thing is to stay calm and positive. Now I feel confident and truly enjoy my job,” she noted.
Each flight for Aliya is a unique story and new emotions. “We try to do something special for our passengers. For example, if someone has a birthday, we sign a card in fifteen languages and take a photo. If someone is flying for the first time, we give them a commemorative certificate and a sweet gift,” she says.
One of the most memorable incidents was severe turbulence during which an elderly woman lost consciousness. “It was a real shock, but we reacted quickly and provided assistance. Everything turned out well. At that moment, I realized how important our work is, as sometimes a person's life depends on us,” Aliya added.
Aliya is fluent in Kyrgyz, Russian, and English. In a month of her flights, she has already visited five countries, and ahead of her are six more new destinations, totaling dozens of countries.
In her free time, she develops her business in women's clothing, Fitme, and tries her hand at modeling. “It’s important for me to continue growing and doing what inspires me. Working in the sky opens up the world and allows you to see life from a different perspective. The main thing is to stay true to yourself and move forward,” says Aliya.
Aliya Sharshieva is confident that each new flight and each country is a step towards her dream, new knowledge, and the freedom she first experienced in the sky.
