Teachers in Kyrgyzstan will now be required to update their knowledge and skills more frequently. This was announced by Almazbek Toktomametov, who heads the Republican Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Educators.

Previously, educators underwent professional development courses only once every five years, but in the future, it is planned that this will happen annually.

“According to the new education legislation, the requirement to take courses every five years has been abolished. We are developing a new regulation that stipulates that every teacher will undergo training every year. The only question is how many hours this training should take, and we need to determine this based on our resources,” said Almazbek Toktomametov, as reported by the Ministry of Education.

He emphasized that five years is not enough for professional growth, and if an educator does not develop, they can significantly fall behind modern requirements during that time.

Additionally, in the 2018-2019 academic year, between 11,000 and 12,000 teachers underwent professional development across the country. In the current academic year, this number has increased to 54,000, and in the next (2024/25), it is planned to reach 41,000 educators. This growth has been made possible, in part, due to the digitalization of the education system.
