Turmush continues to share stories about law enforcement officers in Kyrgyzstan, both current and former.

This time, the focus is on 34-year-old Nurgul Abdykerimova, a senior lieutenant of police and a sports master, residing in the village of Kaptal-Aryk in the Panfilov district of Chui region.

- Tell us about your journey. How did you choose a career in the police? Where are you from?

— I was born on April 4, 1991, in Kaptal-Aryk, where I still live. Currently, I work as an investigator in the Jaiyl District Department of Internal Affairs. I successfully graduated from A. Osmonov School, where I participated in olympiads at the district and regional levels. I want to express special gratitude to my Russian language teacher — Gulbarchyn Zaripovna, who inspired me to write poetry in Russian, despite studying in a Kyrgyz school.

In school, I held the position of president of the student self-government, which likely contributed to my development of discipline and responsibility, as well as sparked my interest in working in the police.

Perhaps I followed in the footsteps of my older brother Kubanychbek, who is a police major.

When I was little, I enjoyed washing and ironing my brother's uniform while our parents — father Mir and mother Kymbat, who works as a nurse — were at work. I often tried on his cap and dreamed of becoming a police officer.

My dream came true thanks to my studies at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic named after Major General of Police E. Aliev from 2010 to 2015, and now I serve as an investigator in the Jaiyl District Department of Internal Affairs.

I am the youngest of four children. Working in the police requires patience, attentiveness, determination, and honesty. I am convinced that fair justice can strengthen the trust of the people in the police.

- Are there any cases from your practice that have stuck with you?

— Once we received a report of a theft. Upon arriving at the scene, we learned that unknown individuals had broken into a house and stolen gold, money, and jewelry while the owners were away.

During the investigation, we gathered various data and found out that the crime was committed by workers who had previously worked in that house. They tried to justify themselves, but the facts spoke for themselves. At that moment, I remembered the proverbs: “Don’t look for the thief far away,” “The thief’s path is narrow.” These sayings reflect the essence of life.

And another case.

— On the Bishkek–Osh highway, there was an incident where a truck hit a two-year-old child playing by the road. Upon arriving at the accident scene, I couldn't hold back my tears, as I am a mother myself, and my heart ached with pain. The cries of the parents still echo in my head. I urge drivers to be extremely careful and parents not to leave their children unattended. I am also against various negative phenomena, including the abduction of girls.

— Once I was informed about an attempted abduction. A young man trying to take a girl away was detained at a checkpoint. The girl was in tears. We took them to the department. That cold, foggy evening, I realized that a woman in uniform must be versatile and ready for any situation.

- How do you spend your free time outside of work?

— In my free hours, I enjoy walking in the park with my four-year-old son Biibol, instilling in him a love for nature. I am also a sports master in table tennis, I am passionate about sports and poetry, and I write poems that I then publish.

- Can you share one of your poems?

I dedicate my life to order,

I serve honestly, knowing no evil.

With epaulettes and faith in truth

The police is my path.

          ×       ×     ×

Handcuffs on the hands of the villain,

I set a barrier in the way,

I serve my Motherland, I do not sway —

And I am proud: I am in the police!
