Khorlan, originally from Kazakhstan, moved to Issyk-Kul for allergy treatment. There, she met her future husband, a Kyrgyz jigit, and decided to stay in Kyrgyzstan.
According to Khorlan, she was born in 1960 in the Kegen district of Almaty region. "In 1977, I graduated from Karkara secondary school with a gold medal, and then in 1978, I enrolled in the physics department of the Issyk-Kul Pedagogical Institute, which I graduated from in 1983. I met my future husband in 1980, and we got married in 1982. We have two sons and two daughters, all of whom have higher education. We also have eight grandchildren. My husband is a native of the Sokuluk district," she shared.
Khorlan also recalled her studies at the Almaty Agricultural Institute and her work in agriculture, where she encountered allergic dermatitis. "I was treated for a year, but my condition worsened, and an ulcer appeared on my eye. At that time, an acquaintance advised me to move to Issyk-Kul, claiming that the air there helps allergy sufferers. I was worried about how I would study in Kyrgyz, but health was more important. In the end, I enrolled in the Przhevalsky Pedagogical Institute," she said.
Issyk-Kul truly helped her: the illness disappeared, and she completely recovered from her allergies. "I am grateful to this sacred place. Here, I not only restored my health but also found family happiness by marrying a Kyrgyz man. I turned 65 on September 26," Khorlan noted.
After becoming a teacher, she always sought to emulate her mentors and worked in education for a total of 42 years. "The reason I chose this profession was my teachers. I always looked at them with admiration and dreamed of being like them. My career began at school No. 1 'Oktyabr' in the village of Asylbash, where we lived with my husband's parents," she shared.
From 1983 to 2002, Khorlan worked as a teacher, and then for 10 years held the position of deputy director for educational and upbringing work. "In 2002, when the children started school, we moved to Almaty. In 2019, I retired, and in 2022, I returned to Kyrgyzstan," she added.
Her husband, Moldaly Adzhikulov, is also a teacher, having graduated from the Przhevalsky Pedagogical Institute with degrees in drawing, labor, and drafting. They worked together at school, and throughout her productive career, Khorlan received numerous awards, including the medals "Ulagatty Ustaz" and "Teacher of the Year" in Kazakhstan. She became the first person in the country's history to be awarded Order No. 1 named after D.A. Kunaev.
In her free time, Khorlan enjoys reading historical books and playing the dombra. She shared memorable moments from her work. "I always loved my students and was a strict teacher. When I was a class teacher, I often came early in the morning and waited for them to arrive. If someone was late, I would go to their home and wake them up. Once, when I was going to one of the students, his puppy broke free and chased after me. After that, I started bringing a stick for self-defense," she concluded.
