On October 26, 2025, Kyrgyzstan held a Day of Remembrance for the servicemen who lost their lives during the Batken events of 1999-2000.

As reported by a representative of the Karakol city administration in the Issyk-Kul region, in the late 1990s, the Batken region faced armed conflicts between government forces and militants. In these battles, fulfilling their duty and remaining true to their oath, 54 servicemen were killed, among whom were residents of the Issyk-Kul region.

“Since then, 25 years have passed. This year, four more participants of the Batken events have passed away — Kanat Mambetakunov, Mukhtar Khamitov, Igor Kostiuk, and Rinat Matraimov,” the city administration reported.

Today, veterans of the Batken events from Karakol are actively engaged in educating the youth. Clubs have been organized in schools, and the "Cascade Guard" club conducts classes dedicated to patriotic education.
