An event was held in Kyrgyzstan in memory of the soldiers who died during the Batken events. The press service of the Ministry of Defense reported this.

According to the information provided, this day became a symbol of respect for the heroes who gave their lives for the protection of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country, as well as a reminder of the value of peace.

The ceremony began with the laying of wreaths at the monument to the heroes of Batken. Words of gratitude were expressed to the participants of the events and their families, honorary certificates were presented, and financial assistance was provided to the relatives of the fallen servicemen, as reported by the press service.

This year is significant as it marks 26 years since the beginning of the Batken events, when the Armed Forces of the country defended the republic from terrorists of the "Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan" (IMU) who invaded the territory of Kyrgyzstan. This armed conflict is recorded in history as the Batken events.

As a result of the confrontations that took place in 1999-2000, 76 people were killed, including 46 military personnel, and more than 100 were injured. The operation to eliminate the armed groups involved 5,800 people from across the country, including 52 reserve officers and 276 servicemen from Osh.

Additionally, October 26 was declared a Day of Remembrance for the servicemen who lost their lives during the events of 1999-2000. This day was established to commemorate the heroism of the heroes, preserve historical memory, and educate the youth in the spirit of military patriotism.
