The organizers reported that the event was held at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Geography of Osh State Pedagogical University. It was attended by representatives of environmental organizations, students, and interested residents discussing issues of nature conservation.
During the discussion, participants emphasized the importance of preserving the snow leopard and its habitat, as well as the role of international and local organizations in protecting ecosystems. The current status of the leopard population in Kyrgyzstan was also discussed, and new measures for their protection were proposed.
At the end of the event, participants were given informational materials on ecology prepared by the organization "NABU Kyrgyzstan."
The snow leopard is the national symbol of Kyrgyzstan. At the end of 2023, President Sadyr Japarov signed a decree that officially confirmed this status.
The snow leopard is listed in the Red Book of Kyrgyzstan and in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) list. This species inhabits only 12 countries and is considered rare and endangered.
In ancient Kyrgyz culture, the snow leopard symbolized qualities such as greatness, nobility, courage, strength, and endurance. According to legends, the leopard is considered a sacred animal, the protector of the lineage of the great Manas.
