In this club, the energy workers of Kyrgyzstan used to relax — what it looks like now
The building, which is a summer cinema with 500 seats, was constructed from 1987 to 1991 and was used for cultural events.
The village of Ketmen-Tobo is located 70 kilometers from Kara-Kul, and its residents mainly engage in livestock farming or work abroad. The village also faces a severe shortage of clean drinking water, which is supplied for only two hours a day.
Currently, there are 480 families living in Ketmen-Tobo, which amounts to approximately 2,300 residents. The official status of the village was granted to it on January 11, 2018, following the relevant decisions of the city council.
This area is also referred to as the settlement of Kambar-Ata. Interestingly, it was built by workers who came from various corners of Kyrgyzstan, and many of them have remained here.
Historically, the territory from Kara-Kul to the Chychkan Gorge is known as the Ketmen-Tobo Valley. Many famous figures in culture and art were born here.
Legends surround the origin of the name "Ketmen-Tobo." According to one version, a giant once lived here who dreamed of damming the Naryn River, which led to the formation of the hill on which the village is now located.
The village is located 90 kilometers from the city limits.
Local residents hope that the completion of the Kambar-Ata-1 and 2 hydroelectric power stations will positively impact the village's economy. However, the main problem remains the lack of drinking water.
As veteran energy worker Adyl Darbishev recounts, a club was opened in Ketmen-Tobo in 1991, which became the center of public life.
During the Soviet Union, the construction of apartment buildings began, but after its collapse, the work was halted. In 1990, 30 Finnish houses and a hospital were built. The town was designed for 30,000 people, primarily hydro builders. In 1991, Ketmen-Tobo received town status, and in 1995, a rural administration was established. In 2009, it became part of Kara-Kul, and in 2016, it officially became a village.
